World Environment Day 2018 “Beat Plastic Pollution”

Say no to plastic, say yes to Fair Trade crafts of natural materials.

The pollution caused by plastic waste causes a great deal of damage to wildlife, human health and the environment. Every year, up to 13 million tons of plastic leak into our oceans, where it smothers coral reefs and threatens vulnerable marine wildlife. Plastic also makes its way into our water supply – and thus into our bodies. What harm does that cause? Scientists still aren’t sure, but plastics contain a number of chemicals, many of which are toxic or disrupt hormones. Plastics can also serve as a magnet for other pollutants, including dioxins, metals and pesticides. Plastics have many valuable uses - but too often (50%) it becomes disposable items, such as plastic cases, plastic bottles, disposable items. They are only used on a short occasion - but remain a long-term problem for animals, nature and future generations.
